Entomology laboratory
The tasks of this working group are dedicated to the study of the biodiversity of the aquatic entomofauna of Argentina, especially regarding the group Culicomorpha (Diptera).
The lines of research that are developed are linked on the one hand to the systematic evaluation of insects and on the other hand to the study of their biodiversity in relationship to the distribution of aquatic entomofauna along Environmental gradients.
WHAT TASKS DO WE PERFORM?
The tasks of this working group are dedicated to the study of the biodiversity of the aquatic entomofauna of Argentina, especially with regard to the group Culicomorpha (Diptera). The assemblage of Chironomidae, whether it is its relationship with the environment from the ecological point of view, as well as also as systematic and biogeographic aspects.
LINES OF RESEARCH
The lines of research that are developed are linked to the Chironomidae (Diptera: Culicomorpha) systematics, where phylogenetic analyses based on morphological and molecular characters, systematic reviews, descriptions of taxonomic novelties, elaboration of regional keys, preparation of species inventories, mentions of relevant records and the preparation of different biogeographic analyses.
In addition, studies on biodiversity are carried out, exploring the presence of chironomids in different aquatic environments and what they look like affected by the environmental disturbances present in the environments that inhabit.
